Thanksgiving

This year for Thanksgiving we took the train to Reno to see my parents. Neither of us had ever been on a train before, so it was kind of exciting. We caught the train on Tuesday night at about 9:30. Sleeping on a train is definitely not the best way to go, but it's not the worst either. My parents met us at the station in Reno and then took us out to breakfast at IHOP. After running some errands we headed home. Devin had never seen my parents new house, so that was exciting. We spent the next 24 hours shopping, reorganizing the kitchen, watching NCIS, and getting our hair cut (mom & I).

On Thursday, my Uncle Glenn and Aunt Rose Maree and my Grandparents came. My Aunt made sweet potatoes, my grandma made pumpkin pie and rolls, and everything else was assembled in my parents' house. Oh, and I had made an apple pie in my cooking class that I brought with us on the train. We grazed on a relish tray and some cheese ball and crackers for a few hours before the food was ready. Devin played the piano for us. I helped my mom find some of her crystal and glassware that hadn't been unpacked since we left Oregon in 2003. Then we ate! As usual, everything was tasty and wonderful. After eating and clean up, we sat around and chatted, and my dad played the piano. Once we had some pie, it was sadly time for my extended family to leave. We were sad to see them go, but they had to drive back over the Sierra-Nevadas and it was getting dark.

That night we played Careers and watched Galaxy Quest, which Devin had never seen. The next day, we all just took it easy. My dad, Devin, and I all played Munchkin while my mom rested and worked on the Laundry. At 4pm we left for the train again.

On the train, we read books and eventually fell asleep. At 5:30am, we got to Provo and Karly came and picked us up. Then we went home and went to bed!

All in all, it was a nice break, and it was great to see my family again. I only wish we could have stayed longer. Oh well, we'll see them next month for Christmas soon enough!

  1. What are these games you're talking about? Are they secret, made up games? Careers? Munchkin? Never heard of them. What did Devin think of Galaxy Quest, cause pretty sure that's one of my faves?!
