As previously described, we took 4 days to get here. Here are the few pictures we managed to remember to take. Unfortunately we failed and only managed to get a picture of Molly in North Dakota. Oh the shame!
First Day: We left Bellingham bright and early and I slept until we were past Ellensburg. Eastern Washington, ugly. Northern Idaho, surprisingly not ugly. Eastern Montana, VERY pretty. Giant black dead snake on the side of the road, not so pretty. At our campsite we went on a walk and saw a MOOSE! It was a lady moose and she had white on her chest, which I have never seen before. Fortunately, we were unharmed by our moose encounter. Unfortunately, we were most definitely harmed by our multiple mosquito encounters! Ahh the itchiness! We also had the misfortune of drinking some water from the spigot by our campsite that we dubbed the pee water. You can imagine why.
Second Day: Longest day of the trip. Definitely got cabin fever! By the time we finally crossed into North Dakota, I was sick of Montana; it's too darn wide. However, we were able to see antelope, deer, hawks, and we think a caribou. Our campsite was by a lake and had Frisbee golf so Devin was happy and we saw some bunnies so I was happy. More mosquitoes but not as bad. Slightly better tasting water at this campsite. North Dakota, surprisingly more beautiful than I thought it would be.
Third Day: Saw pelicans. That's right, they live in North Dakota. Things got more humid the further east we drove. By the time we got to our hotel we were so grateful to be able to bathe and change our clothes! We went to the Mall of America. Huge, as expected and the Lego store was spiffy as expected. There is an indoor Nickelodeon theme park, ridiculous! As a treat, we ate dinner at Tony Roma's, though neither of us got ribs. And thank goodness, the water was just fine!
Fourth and Final Day: Went to church in Minneapolis, ate the continental breakfast, packed up the car, and got on the road. The only place on the whole trip (besides our first hour into Seattle) that we had traffic, Wisconsin! Rubbish state. People there, do not know how to drive. As we're heading toward the Illinois border, the highway is merging down to one lane on each side. Instead of getting over, or even signaling, the people in the left lane just keep driving as long as possible and then expect to just be let in. Foolish. And then, the old lady in the car behind us refused to let one of these left lane drivers in between us so she's riding our tail and hits the bike on the back of our car! Then the people she was crowding out honk, and roll down their window to yell at us that she hit our bike. Yes, we know. Fortunately, I don't think we were even going a mile an hour at the time and everything was fine. We lost like an hour in this stupidness. Oh well. We eventually made it and now we're getting settled here after months of anticipation.
Till next time...
